ZigZagZurich is pleased to announce the launch of the newArtistCarpetCollection 2021.
Inspired by our loveforwool and the ancient technique to weave carpets, we are pleased toannounce our new ArtistCarpet Collection. This new production technique we developedcombines a natural, unbleached, simply washed sheep’s wool (dark or light tone) combinedwith a bamboo silk yarn in the weft. The combination of these two yarns createsa beautifulcontrast that is both luxurious yet hardwearing. The carpets are woven with 820’000 points persquare meter leaving the pile height to a minimum to give a flat and modern appearance.Thecarpets are manufactured in small production runs in Europe and are Oeko-Tex certified. Backed with a non-slip finish.
Standard size is 160 x 230cm. Custom sizes available on request.
Carpets or rugs are used for a variety of purposes, including insulating a person’s feet from acold tile or floor, making a room more comfortable as a place to sit on the floor (e.g. whenplaying with children), reducing sound from walking and adding decoration or colour to aroom. They can also be hung on the walls as pieces of artwork.
The first launch includes three works: “Field”,“Bengali”, and “Gunta”.
“Field” carpet by Jo Hummel, was created using large sheets of painted paper, which the artistcut into shapes, flipped, and rearranged until a visual balance was reached. There are visualstructures such as the grid, positive negative space and the suggestion of pattern which areunderpinned by a physical, human, intuitive collage process. With this weaving techniques wewere able to reproduce even the smallest detail.
