Discover the Bauhaus

Today, as in the past, Thonet create innovative products designed for durability: they are characterised by the highest quality and a timeless formal language.

Behind each Thonet product stands a well-conceived concept and several production steps – from the processing of the wood or tubular steel to the colouring and upholstery. Each piece of furniture already has its own history before it even leaves our facility.

The combination of state-of-the-art production technologies and traditional craftsmanship makes Thonet one of the most successful furniture companies in the world.

Master of Modernism

Mies van der Rohe

German-American architect is one of the pioneers of the modernist movement, devising in a paper sketch the world’s first glass skyscraper and practically inventing open-plan spaces.

The Bauhaus director was one of the world's best-known architects. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, simply Mies to the entire world of design, is one of architecture's most towering figures.

Clear design and individual lighting: the LUM floor lamp

The Bauhaus Table Lamp embodies the essential idea that form follows function, as espoused by the influential Bauhaus school.

Wilhelm Wagenfeld created in 1924 one of the most iconic lamps of the 20th century, which is known as the Bauhaus or Wagenfeld Lamp.

Marcel Breuer

Josef Albers designed these timelessly beautiful typesetting tables for the so-called Moellenhof House in Berlin when he was engaged in furniture design during his time at the Bauhaus in Weimar and was artistic director of the furniture workshop for a short time.

Josef Hartwig

Bauhaus Chess

What is imperceptibly special about this chess game is its simplicity. No ornaments lend the individual pieces a haptic that radically turns away from what has so far characterized the design of Bauhaus Chess figures.

The striving for clarity and simplification in favour of the recipient is therefore evident in the Bauhaus chess as in hardly any other object of utility art.
