furniture design with a long tradition

Discover the Bauhaus

Today, as in the past, Thonet create innovative products designed for durability: they are characterised by the highest quality and a timeless formal language.

Behind each Thonet product stands a well-conceived concept and several production steps – from the processing of the wood or tubular steel to the colouring and upholstery. Each piece of furniture already has its own history before it even leaves our facility.

The combination of state-of-the-art production technologies and traditional craftsmanship makes Thonet one of the most successful furniture companies in the world.

Master of Modernism

Mies van der Rohe

German-American architect is one of the pioneers of the modernist movement, devising in a paper sketch the world’s first glass skyscraper and practically inventing open-plan spaces.

The Bauhaus director was one of the world's best-known architects. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, simply Mies to the entire world of design, is one of architecture's most towering figures.

TIMELESS ELEGANCE WITH COMFORT

Cantilever Chair S533RF

Technology becomes furniture; a striking invention becomes an elegant interior design object. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was the first to provide the cantilever chair with aesthetic lightness and to relate it to its environment with curved lines.

Marcel Breuer

Side Tables B 9

During his time at the Bauhaus, Marcel Breuer experimented with steel and tubular steel, a new and promising material for furniture. The close interchange with the aircraft manufacturer Junkers in Dessau accelerated the development process. His first designs included the set tables B 9 and various shelves and pieces of side furniture.
