Kandem Leuchten GmbH for Habit: Kandem 967 desk lamp after Marianne Brandt and Hin Bredendieck.
The iconic Bauhaus lamp returns: in 1929, the Kandem desk lamp was created at the Bauhaus in Dessau under the direction of Marianne Brandt. Production of this lamp began in the 1930s by the company Körting & Mathiesen in Leipzig and was extremely successful. In various designs, over 70,000 examples were produced well into the 1940s. Over the years, the original design by Marianne Brandt and Hin Bredendieck of Körting & Mathiesen was modified again and again. During World War II, there were even wartime variations with a base of pressed glass and a shade of transparent pressed fabric. A comprehensive overview of the various earlier generations of Kandem lights can be found in the book "BauhausLeuchten? Kandemlicht!", published by Arnoldsche in 2003.
In 2023, Kandem Leuchten GmbH reissued the height-adjustable Kandem table lamp in a 20% larger version. In the process, numerous details from the early Bauhaus versions were adopted, such as the characteristic Kandem screw on the reflector and the rotary switch. The new 967 model is available in four different standard finishes, and custom colors are also available upon request.
