A journalist called the illuminated building a "giant light cube" on the official inauguration evening of the Bauhaus. From the very beginning, "light" was a central theme at the Bauhaus - it permeated art, design, pedagogy and urban planning. The texts and photos in Wolfgang Thöner's book illustrate how the Bauhaus "shines". Examples from the Masters' Houses and the Dessau Employment Office, the Törten housing estate and other buildings designed by Walter Gropius, Hannes Meyer or Carl Fieger are presented.
