Matthew Hilton stands as one of Britain's most esteemed contemporary furniture designers, drawn to architecture, design, and painting from an early age. The idea of becoming a designer was suggested to him by a tutor at Portsmouth College of Art. Hilton enrolled in the renowned Furniture and Design course at England's Kingston Polytechnic, graduating in 1979. He worked as an Industrial Engineer and model maker for Capa until 1984. In 1991, Hilton created his most iconic piece, the Balzac Armchair, produced by SCP Ltd. In 2004, Matthew Hilton was honored with the appointment as a Royal Designer for Industry.
