Description

Together with Hans Przyrembel, Marianne Brandt designed various lamps. This was completely in the spirit of Walter Gropius, because luminaires could be used economically to fill the narrow school coffers. They were manufactured in the company's own workshop and used in the Bauhaus workshops themselves. A particularly fine example of this is the pendant luminaire now known as the HMB 25/300, the height of which can be regulated by means of a pendulum pull and a counterweight. Its hemispherical shade clearly bears the signature of Marianne Brandt.

TECNOLUMEN had old catalogues with exact measurements and two old copies of the new pendant luminaires, one from the Bauhaus Archive, Berlin. It turned out that different materials and fittings with different dimensions were used. For example, the shade was made of aluminium or nickel silver or nickel-plated copper sheet. We chose the nickel-plated version because non-anodised aluminium runs quickly and nickel silver (Alpacca) is hardly ever produced anymore. In some luminaires the lower edge was flanged over to give the shade greater stability, as the thickness of the material was reduced.

The new lamps have a straight cut off edge (like some of the old models), the pulley train has been reconstructed true to the original, like all other parts. Only the lampholder and the black braided cable comply with the new regulations.

Both versions (shield diameter 300mm and 500mm) are available with and without roller hoist and are available in polished and nickel-plated aluminium and white painted aluminium.

Each luminaire is consecutively numbered and bears the signet TECNOLUMEN/BAUHAUS.

Recommended illuminant: LED lamp 8 W, matt
