Bauhaus Master Modernism. The comeback documents the three-part exhibition project of the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale). Until 1933, the museum was one of the most important museums for modern art in Germany. In 1937, his heart was virtually torn out with the confiscation of his expressionist and abstract works. This volume presents for the first time the complete historical collection of modern art as compiled by the directors between 1908 and 1939. International loans supplement the works from their own holdings. The second chapter is dedicated to the visionary Kunstmuseum, which the director of the Bauhaus in Dessau, Walter Gropius, designed in 1927 as part of a competition organized by the city of Halle (Saale) and which was never realized. The third part of the book brings together masterpieces by the five Bauhaus masters Lyonel Feininger, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Georg Muche and Oskar Schlemmer - loans from international collections, some of which have been on display in Germany for the first time in many decades. They make it possible to trace the development of the artists between 1919 and 1933.
