Dutch architect Hans Gugelot joined the Ulm School of Design in 1954. With his product designs, he contributed significantly to the success of this legendary university. In 1956, together with Dieter Rams, he developed the "SK 4" radio set for the Braun company, which became an icon of West German post-war design as the "Snow White Coffin".

Hans Gugelot designed numerous industrial goods for leading manufacturers: razors, furniture, sewing machines, slide projectors, trains for mass transit. He was involved in teaching at the HfG and in setting up the National Institute of Design, which now has three locations in India, and gave decisive impetus to the development of the profession of "industrial designer".
